Community SING, a gathering of recreational music making through singing, is an opportunity to build community through simple songs meant to uplift and connect people. No musical experience, songbooks or auditions are necessary. Participants are invited to come with an open mind and open heart and open themselves up to the possibility and magic that collective music making offers.
There is no performance, the experience of co-creating and playing with music is not to polish or perfect, but to build connections through simple songs meant for community singing.
Rachel Allen composes many of these as well as utilizes familiar songs/spirituals and other songs from the body of community singing Rachel has accumulated through participating in song sharing for two decades.
Community singing is a practice that enhances the possibility of empathetic relationships around us. The collective experience of group singing potentially builds social cohesion.
Community SING, led by Rachel Allen, a Melodious Accord Fellow, Song Leader and Facilitator and Composer, brings people together with the intention to SING, learning simple melodies and engaging with them not to perform, but to use music as PLAY and to build social cohesion.
This is a FREE Family friendly (ages 10 and up) event.
Please RSVP as space is limited.
This project is made possible through the support of The Community Foundation for the Alleghenies and the PA Council of the Arts.
