Embodying Love in times of chaos and negativity has been the theme in my yoga classes this month. Moving beyond love as a personal emotion and awakening to love as the essence of our being. We created in love. All of us. We are a reflection of that love and part of a whole.
Knowing this intellectually perhaps but embodying it is a whole different animal, especially in the state of the world where power hungry, self righteous voices and selfish cries for attention cover the newsfeed of social media and dominate the covers of the supermarket rags. Meanwhile, addiction rages out of control in communities, people’s hearts are hardened to the nature of the suffering of our fellow human beings in refugee camps and in prisons and it seems like Negativity, isolation and disconnect run the show.
We can learn much by understanding the very basic physiology of the heart and entrainment in general and then connect to tools that will allow us from a grounded place of connection and compassion move, breathe and live in a state of coherence.
According to the Institute of Heart Math, ” The heart’s electromagnetic field is believed to act as a central synchronizing signal within the body, an important carrier of emotional information and a key mediator of energetic interactions between people…Living and acting from a coherent heart state can affect those around us.”
So, do we realize how powerful this is? A healthy heart responds to the various demands of a range of activities in an appropriate rhythm, this is called Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and being able to use tools to regulate emotions, ( please note that I said regulate…..not suppress!) is a HUGE part of a healthy emotional heart!
It gets better, the heart has a direct vibrational impact on every cell in the body! Energetically, as the fourth chakra, it is the bridge between the physical and the metaphysical. We can explore the spaciousness of the heart and the qualities of the heart center, including joy, freedom, compassion, grace, gratitude and of course, love. Our capacity for love is infinite.
When we think of entrainment, the heart being the dominant rhythm in the body, if we have a healthy HRV, this will influence the entire complex system that is YOU! There is a coherence here, a joining together of multiple patterns in an unbroken stream of energy. Physiologically, if you are here, you are at the optimal place for creating, sustaining and regenerating your life force! This is also associated metaphysically with a Higher Consciousness. Connecting to universal understandings of the human experience. Compassion. Mercy. Forgiveness. This is a higher vibrational frequency.
The opposite of this state is Dissonance which is a lower frequency where we find fear, anger, blame. Spending lots of time here leaves us susceptible to a wide array of illnesses, which also operate at a lower frequency. This has a debilitating, degenerative effect on the life force energy. Addictions. Violence. Conflict. Shame. Denial. Resentment. This is here. This is a low frequency.
So, while I am about as far from a scientist you can get, I am fascinated by the ability to access wellness and peace with the tools of yoga and connection to Creator and FEEL IT IN THE BODY!
This is how we are created! To be well! To Love! To be compassionate! To be connected! No walls or laws can change the fact that when we breath in, we breath in air that we all share! Whether we like each other or not! When we breath out, we add a bit more of ourselves into the universe.
So our tools of grounding, breathing, moving. Mindful practices that allow us to connect to the awareness of the sacredness of our life, of all life. Reading sacred literature as a reflection of this understanding. Allowing yourself to access an embodied sense of emotions. We can use even emotions like anger in a healthy way. It can be motivation for change. But when you find that dense, heavy energy showing up, use your tools above. Connect to Creator. Connect to someone who know is authentic, grounded in truth and compassion. Know your heart. Trust your heart. Witness the negativity. Love anyway. Change your own heart. See how that changes those around you.
May All Beings be Happy, be Free, and have Peace. May my words, my thoughts and my actions contribute to the happiness, freedom and peace of all life. So be it.
P.S. Join me in honoring VDAY! Support events in your local community that empower women and girls and work to eliminate violence.
